Western Districs!!!

This coming weekend my club team (lonestar 97 white south) and I will be heading to San Marcos to take care of business. Our regular season has just ended so we are heading into the play offs. The top two teams are selected from each bracket and there are three brackets. A total of 6 teams for our division will be competing for spots in the state tournament, held in Corpus Christi. I’d say we have an ok chance, but one team that is sure to be there is the East Austin Dragons. The dragons are a very good team and a team that I know well. Five players on that team are also freshman LASA students.

On the Saturday before thanks giving break ended I got a bad cut on the bottom of my foot, so this whole week it has been hurting when I run and walk on it. I have been trying to stay off of it as much as possible but every time I run, the cut opens back up. But I have to run, because LBJ tryouts have started and because my club practices this week have all been mandatory.

There is a forecast for rain this weekend, so I am hoping that the tournament is postponed, giving me more time to heal. But we might just be playing in the rain, which would suck. To find out more about the club, go to the website.

Moving is very important in paintball

I pulled the flag in Capture the Flag, gun ran out of air and I yelled at my teammates to get on the trigger, stay on the trigger and then I took off at a dead sprint without a gun, got the flag, and ran to the capture zone (the other teams spawn) good ending to a good day

LEAD

His heart pumping it was the final minute in till the end of the game he had no rivals in front of him he had a chance to score he saw his partner he passed it to him he said to him shot the goalie was about to jump he shot the ball so hard that the goalie could not see the ball pass right beside him  they had won the game they were the winners of the game.    J-man

Sweat dangles from D-wang’s nose and splatters onto the small plastic ball below him, which he holds so elegantly with two fingers. As he drops the ball to the table beneath him, his arm with paddle in hand, swings forward ever so smoothly like a torpedo through water. At the sound of his paddle smacking the ball, it is only fractions of a second before the ball is makes its way at him again and again, until this plastic ball meets the net. With each attack on the ball, heat builds within the air as well as on his paddle and will not cool until, the match is settled. It’s hard to believe that so much intensity and extreme focus all happens on a tiny 45 square foot ping pong table, but those 45 square feet of space is where D-wang is at his best.
D-wang also known as Daniel Wang, is what LASA has best to offer when it comes to the sport of ping pong. Being the best Ping pong player at his high school, it’s know wonder why Daniel is looked up to by freshmen that are newly interested in the sport. With such a title, he still flies humble and is always willing to give advice/help, whether it be ping pong related or schoolwork.

“Get up, move up!” Eddie is screaming at his teammates, shooting projectiles filled with a colorful gel moving at around 150 mph. His gun shooting in almost the exact same spot every time, he pins his opponents down and moves up the field, crawling on his stomach. “Hey Blake watch back left” as paint splatters off of the front of his bunker. His teammate pops up and headshots the newbie who had a bead on Eddie. “Flag clear, flag clear?” he yells across the field. That same teammate replies a resound yes and Eddie takes off at a dead sprint towards the flag he slides on his chest to avoid paint being shot at him and yanks the flag down ending the game and winning the round for his team.
This interview is with a serious paintball player with his own equipment and high level paintball experience. He has some advice for newer players and would like to share it with you. He is very knowledgeable and passionate about this sport. So if you want to get into paintball read on….

Successful business in paintball

So I want to tell you a story about a young entrepreneur that let his passion become his business. Last month I told you that I bought a paintball gun called an autococker, turns out the gun came in broken and I got an incredibly cheap price on the gun and ended up fixing it myself. Lots of time and research went into fixing this and it ended up being a fairly cheap fix. One of the O-rings in the three way pneumatic valves was broken. For those of you that don't know O-rings are rubber rings that go around air fittings to make sure there is an air tight seal, making sure the air flows where you want it to flow. Once I fixed it I threw it up on the BST forums, of course on TECHPB. Now I actively went and searched for offers, I mostly wanted to trade this away instead of straight up selling it. So using the normal and fairly common "sig" offer on these forums, (it means whatever is in the person's signature under every post for trade) I ended up trading this away for a 2008 model fusion FX made by Dangerous Powers. This is a 500 dollar tournament gun I effectively bought for 150 dollars, 75 for the autococker that I fixed, and I had to add 75 cash. But all in all a great deal.... I think I just got addicted to flipping guns (gun I received is up top)

Control your Wood!!!!

All the creative devices to ply ping pong just aren’t cutting it any more. Students can’t play at the level they want and can't go beyond there potential with plates and cups. But a new way to play has yet again arrived. Its paddles, but not just your ordinary ping pong paddle. These paddles are pure wood, non rubber, homemade paddles. These paddles were created by a person with gifted hands. They were created by a student that has way too much time on their hand which seems contradictory since that someone goes to LASA. Anyway, that someone is Even Myers, I have to say there pretty amazing paddles for home made.

However, there are some minor problems with these paddles. The handles are a bit short but the real problem is the fact that they have no rubber. The blade is all wood, causing the ball to rebound off the paddle with much more force, than students are used to. When you get served a fast low ball, it is very difficult to return it without overshooting the ball. But besides all the problems, they’re still amazing and in the words of Travis duck, “These paddles are so awesome.” To learn more about getting your own wood for making paddles go to the wood shop website

Places Around Austin To play Paintball

So guys I've talked alot about how/why/paintball is cool, paintball stuff.... but I realized in order to get you guys out to the field I need to tell you which field to go to. My personal favorite is OUTLAW paintball, I go there probably once every other week. Good crowd and on Sunday's if ATX AGGRESSION is in a bad mood, don't mess with this tournament level team. OUTLAW has three main fields consisting of "spools" "hyperball" and "castle." Spools is a litter of wooden wire spools about as tall as you are, and there is about 75 spools in an area of 300 ft. by 300ft. so there is densely packed cover and it really forces you to move around or get into a snap shooting battle. Hyperball is similar to a tournament field layout but is more durable because it is made of black pipe insulator, not the foam stuff.... the polycarbonate stuff. Sparse cover and close quarters provide very quick matches and a minute long adrenaline rush sprinting, diving, shooting, and repeating. Newer players seem to prefer Castle, it provides an interesting experience... but I think they like it because if they get picked to be a defender, they get to beat up on the more experienced players who pretty much dont have any cover except a trench :p. And for 20$ you cannot beat this value around the Austin area.

It's back to PADDLES!!!!!!

For weeks students mainly freshman have wanted to play ping pong but the paddles were always locked up. Just last Friday, students discovered that the cabinet was no longer locked and that the paddles were free to use. Students had lots of fun and took advantage of the paddles for that single day. Near the end of lunch, students realized that the lock of the cabinet was just sitting out on top so; the bright idea came to mind of hiding the lock so that the janitors could not lock it up, leaving the paddles free to use every lunch. I believe that the lock was hidden either inside several plastic cups or deep inside a cardboard box right next to the file cabinet. As long as the janitors don’t find the lock, students will be able to play with paddles every day instead of their hands, plates and water bottles. I heard that the plan has worked so far and that students did indeed enjoy the use of paddles earlier today during lunch.  Now that paddles are back, the furious three (D-wang, Zafar, and Ying) may return to the table during lunch times. For more information about lunch rules at LASA got to the school web page.

Bought new equipment

Another successful transaction on the TECHPB buy sell trade forums. This time it was a motorized hopper, this will be my third hopper.... and by now I think it will be the best one yet. Don't get my wrong I loved my eggy 2, and my JRNY didn't exactly turn out the way I wanted (it was pretty bad) but the brand new INVERT TOO thats in the mail as of right now will hopefully be amazing, and this my friends will complete my invert equipment domination. I have invert jerseys, invert gun, invert loader, what more could you do to attempt to get a sponsorship. 22 BPS+ and sound activated, pretty fancy for 40 dollars. I have seen this loader at multiple tournaments and since im looking to get into the tournament seen.... here we go

Water bottle ping pong

As you may know from my older post, the ping pong paddles in the cafeteria are locked up for no apparent reason and since students don’t know how to access them they have have to use other objects that can serve as a paddle. I have seen hand, plates and now even water bottle being used as paddles. A water bottle does seem absurd but it actually works quite well and in some cases is better than using a plate. The trick with a water bottle is that you must use the base of it when making contact with the ball. Many make the mistake of using the bottle like a bat and swinging at the ball. If you hold the bottle and point the base at you opponent, you will have much more control and better returns on the ball. Some students have already mastered the water bottle technique. I for a fact that Travis Duck (LASA freshman) has beat several opponents with his canteen water bottle. I personally would recommend using a stainless steel bottle like Duck’s because every time you hit the ball with it, a tiny “ding” sound is made, and it’s quite satisfying to here. To purchase a water bottle for yourself go to this link
